When I returned after 30 mins, it was stuck in an endless restart loop. Then, just before I was going to rescue users data to USB stick I got careless and spend to much time in Internet and Vista went to sleep and shut down I will retry what you suggest maybe I will be luckyer this time. The answer is to take the drive and put it in a USB case then plug it into another computer.

  1. cause it isn't only HDD that can ruin things. (might be redundant, but just to get an idea: HDD, SSD, RAM, Overheat, VGA, Missing Drivers, Wrong-Drivers, not compatible products, not compatible
  2. If I remember right you are familiar with Linux, so you know you can run that if all else fails.
