right now i'm a bit hesitant to reformat once again to test this out but I will do it if it's my last resort. but remove all other crap regularly and monitor changes regularly. on my computer it hangs here for around 5 or so minutes before I get to the login screen. When I start the pc after being switched off, it takes just under a minute or so.I do not have a state of the art computer system, mind.

- Once a month is probably plenty unless you're loading lots of programs or making other significant changes to msconfig or your boot files.

Personally, when my PC is taking 58.8 seconds to boot, I'll make the assumption that the optimization routine that was supposed to have worked _didn't work_. I think MicroSoft says, unless there's a big problem elsewhere, that the program should make your XP PC boot (from the bottom) in fewer than 30 seconds. Those All programs > Startup files are only shortcuts, so you can right click them and delete them without deleting the programs themselves.For the others, (startup programs have other ways of
