Brian Cooley found it for you at CES 2017 in Las Vegas and the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. If you hold the hard drive so that the non existent pin is facing up, the one that is broken is the one directly bottom right of it. I'm going to try this and see if it works.
Install a new drive, install your O/S on it and then try and recover the data off the old drive.
We've got it. Windows now recognizes is as the 100 GB HDD that it should be. Using a set of tweezers pull the broken pin out of the 40 pin socket housing. No offering of reward/compensation for solutions.
